Winery Alliance of Bainbridge Island
7 wineries got together on Bainbridge, to share some knowledge, some equipment, some sources, and some fun. It became WABI. The Winery Alliance of Bainbridge Island.
All of these wineries are less than 10 years old. Yet most are showing up on the radar of appreciative wine lovers in the Seattle area. Why? Because these small wineries are making some of the best handcrafted, limited quantity wines around.
Wine making is not just a handcrafted, cottage industry here on Bainbridge. It’s a shed, basement and garage industry. You see, we believe great wine isn’t about fancy estates and chateaus. It’s about great grapes and a winemaker’s skill.
Our wines are made from some of the world’s best grapes – grown in sunny, warm, eastern Washington. And special varieties grown in the maritime climate of Bainbridge Island. So it’s no surprise, these wines just keep winning awards. It’s pretty neat actually.
Each winery generally consists of just the winemaker, and a whole lot of friends and volunteers. (Something you may want to try yourself). No corporate hierarchy. All worker bees here.
Our winemakers are not in this for the money. Though they’ll be glad to sell you their wines. After all, barrels, bottles and grapes do cost something. What the winemakers are really in this for, is the love of winemaking.
You Need to Get Here
So you can take a look around our web site. You can read about the wineries. You can even click the links to the wineries’ web sites.
But here’s a better idea. Come visit one of our tasting rooms or tour one of our wineries.
In theory, we’re just a 460 foot walk from downtown Seattle (when you walk from one end of the ferry to the other).
A day of rural wine tasting just couldn’t be any more convenient, for all of you big city wine lovers.
